I started this thread so members could contribute some reviews of local eateries and ways to save.

One big way to save some bucks is by joining www.restaurant.com Taz

You can but certificates online through them for many local eateries. The certificates usually cost around $10 for a $25 certificate and $3 for a $10 certificate. Each business has a menu for you to browse and lists any restrictions on the certificates.

Some local eateries covered are Darlings, LJ's (best BBQ IMHO), East Side Checker club (just over the line on Benefit), and many more.

Review: DARLINGS

I took the family to Darlings a few weeks back and really enjoyed it. Though the place was half full it was really quiet. I hate having to shout over dinner at places like Fridays. Here you can have some really good food at a reasonable price and have a nice conversation. Our waitress was very friendly and took the time to talk with us for awhile. The dinners averaged around $15 and they have a kids menu. With the certificate a family of 5 was able to have an enjoyable dinner for around $50.

If you have a review or savings tip share it with the community by posting a response to this thread.

PostSubject: Twist on Angell   Local Restaurants and ways to save... I_icon_minitimeMon Feb 16, 2009 5:20 pm

I would recommend Twist on Angell to everyone - what a great restaurant! We have dined there many times with different people and there is always something for everyone from appetizers to desserts. I recommend the Hummus platter for an appetizer to share - it's delicious and enormous. All their entrees are delicious, and their carrot cake dessert is amazing. Full bar menu. They list a gluten-free menu as well. It's on Angell St. on the East Side of Providence - only about 4 miles away via Henderson Bridge. Bistro atmosphere - Dress is anywhere from casual to dressed up depending on your mood. It's a very mixed crowd - after work crowd, East Side academics, families with children around 5 and up, couples young and old - all seem comfortable.

PostSubject: 99 Pub near Showcase Cinema   Local Restaurants and ways to save... I_icon_minitimeMon Feb 16, 2009 5:37 pm

I like the 99 - I like the menu selections and the service is usually good. On our last very recent visit, the server was wonderful! The only drawback to 99 is that the quality of the food is inconsistent - somethings are overdone and some are undercooked at times. Out of 4 people, 2 will rave about their food and others will be disappointed. They just don't get everything right in the kitchen. Last time they mixed up our specialty burgers and we could tell that they 'attempted' unsuccessfully to scrape the BBQ sauce and mushrooms off them and switch them to the right ones -not professional. oops2 It's convenient for a quick bite .. I just wish they would improve the kitchen staff.
I'd be interested to hear about others' experiences there.

I have gone to Darling's for years. The food is usually pretty good. But, in all honesty, I go more for the professional service, the prices and the quiet atmosphere. (To be honest, the food was much better 20-30 years ago. But at that time, there was a waiting line to get in and I think it was more upscale. Restaurants today have to cater to a much different clientele. Especially in Seekonk)

Just lovin' Orchard House Cafe in the Benny's Plaza. The food is delicious!
It's a great spot for sandwiches, soups and salads. Everything I've had has been fresh
and very yummy. Their breakfasts' are also plentiful and reasonably priced.
Small place, decorated cute and the owners take personal attention to customers needs.
(they can provide gluten-free eating).
Definitely worth checking out !!!

PostSubject: The best places for pizza in and around Seekonk   Local Restaurants and ways to save... I_icon_minitimeSat Mar 07, 2009 8:38 pm

I'm craving pizza right now! Taz Anyone want to share their favorite local places for pizza? Here are mine:

Popular Pizza - love their pepperoni and the one with everything on it
Spumoni's - Four cheese white pizza (no sauce) with garlic and fresh chopped tomatoes
Uncle Tony's - Pepperoni
Best Pizza - Mushroom and olive

I'd like to try some new places - any recommendations?

By the way, Best Pizza of Seekonk should be recognized for their incredible generosity to the Seekonk Save-A Pet org. every year - they donate so many gift certificates for free pizzas! Thumbs up

Oh that is an easy one...the best pizza in Rhode island is the one you get from Twin's Pizza of North Providence. Rich sauce in a family sized rectangle and there is always a line so best to order ahead for pick up.

One of the advantages of growing up a west bay kid.

Dave... I haven't had a pizza from Twin's in years. But if it measures up to my memories, it is definitely amazing.

In recent years, I have enjoyed Papa Ginos. I think they are a little pricey, though. Hopefully, their employees benefit.

And Best Pizza is an asset to the community and should be commended and supported.

The wife and I stumbled upon a really great breakfast place....Sax's Pizza! Yeah...I know...they make great pizza too but now they are also serving a full breakfast menu. This is the restaurant on north Broadway (used to be a chinese restaurant).

Specials start at $1.99 for eggs, toast, and homefries. -best homefries in a long time. Fruit cup is a must (all fresh).

It is clean, relaxing, and not loud!

PostSubject: Pita Market   Local Restaurants and ways to save... I_icon_minitimeSun Jan 10, 2010 12:40 pm

The Pita Market

I just have to make a plug for this gem. Located on Rt. 44 next to the D/D I was dragged here by some guys at work a few weeks back and now I go at least once a week. It is a Lebanese menu and once you try it you will be hooked!

Two people sharing a veggie combo plate (three selections) will leave you completely stuffed for under ten bucks. Highly recommend the grilled eggplant with a tomato and onion sauce (this coming from a guy who hates eggplant), and whenever they run the lentil soup special it is awesome. Each meal comes with plenty of pita bread and the hummus dip is the best.

Nice Mom and pop shop setup deli style with many choices and a
to-go menu. You can eat this stuff guilt free because it is all great for you.

Maybe the tip is to stick with the vegetarian fare. I 've been twice and was disappointed with their meat offerings. We'll give the soups and veggie platter a try because we love Middle Eastern food and drive by there all the time. Smile
